OUTREACH SPECIALIST

Public Health Advocates seeks a dynamic community outreach professional to support our Within Our REACH (Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health) project with faith and community-based organizations, and community residents in Stockton, CA.

 

Responsibilities:
The Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for recruiting and collaborating with Faith and community-based organizations in the development and implementation of health and wellness policies for their members/participants. The Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for leading the Clergy Network by providing training, support and education to support REACH’s grant deliverables.

 

  • Recruit faith based and community-based organizations that serve the African American population and assist in developing and implementing health policies and activities.

  • Facilitation: Assist with agenda setting and outreach for local collaboration of FBO/CBO partnerships.

  • Clergy Network: Create a communication network that facilitates the sharing of best practices, training, and campaign development. Develop and facilitate bi-monthly presentations with Clergy members.

  • Coalition Building: Support the Program Manager in recruiting, training, and engaging members of the Stockton Steering Committee and the Black Table.

  • Calendar and Meetings: Keep Outlook calendar up to date with work schedule and program activities.

  • Reporting and Documentation: Track all outreach activities; maintain contact lists; and properly archive campaign materials such as policy documents, support letters/cards, presentations, toolkits, etc.

  • Organize and facilitate trainings for faith-based and community-based partnerships as needed.

  • Participate in community outreach events, conduct program presentations, and disseminate program materials to faith-based organizations.

  • Support the evaluation of the REACH grant measures and outcomes by collecting relevant data, tracking progress, and contributing to annual reports.

  • Moving and Lifting: Moving small office equipment such as boxes, projector screens, canopies, portable tables, etc. 

  • Program Support: Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Dedication to social action, social justice, civic engagement and leadership development

  • HS Diploma or equivalent

  • 2+ years of community organizing and/or outreach experience

  • Prior non-profit experience a plus

  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and teamwork coordination

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, online databases & uploading web content

  • Able to prioritize tasks in a fast paced and independent environment.

  • Able to interact with and positively engage people of various social, ethnic, cultural, linguistic, religious, economic and educational backgrounds.

  • Familiarity with facilitation on Zoom and other virtual platforms is strongly encouraged.

 

Position details:

  • This is a full-time non-exempt position.

  • $42K to 49K depending on relevant experience.

  • Occasional evening and weekend hours.

  • Position available immediately.

Youth Development Specialist, Faces of Resilience

Public Health Advocates seeks a dynamic Youth Development professional to support our Faces of Resilience youth program in Stockton, CA.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Community Organizing: Recruit, educate, mobilize, and train youth in community organizing, social justice, equity, and advocacy 

  • Advocacy: Regularly attend school district board meetings, city council meetings, and other community meetings that require youth voice and representation 

  • Leadership Development: build rapport with youth through 1 to 1’s and goal setting, develop youth success road maps to encourage youth to be college, career, and/or community ready 

  • Coalition Building: build positive working relationships with school district staff, Stockton Police Department, The City of Stockton, the Mayor’s Office, and San Joaquin Behavioral Health Services to plan and discuss health, trauma, and racial discrimination prevention efforts to promote health for all Stockton youth

  • Calendar and Meetings: Keep Outlook calendar up-to-date with work schedule and program activities

  • Reporting and Documentation: Track all outreach activities; maintain campaign contact lists; and properly archive campaign materials such as policy documents, support letters/cards, presentations, toolkits, etc.

  • Research policies and practices that have been harmful to African Americans throughout history. Research services provided to Black and Brown youth in San Joaquin County.  

  • Trainings: Organize and facilitate trainings with youth projects

  • Evaluation: Support the evaluation of the REACH grant measures and outcomes by collecting relevant data and track progress by maintaining an updated database of the work

  • Events: assist program staff in planning and attending community and agency sponsored events 

  • Outreach: develop a strategic youth outreach plan, participate in community outreach events, conduct program presentations, and disseminate program materials to community, stakeholders, Stockton elected officials 

  • Moving and Lifting: moving small office equipment such as boxes, projector screens, canopies, portable tables, etc.  

  • Program Support: Other program duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of community organizing and/or youth engagement experience

  • Must have experience working with school district and city level policy.

  • Prior non-profit experience a plus

  • Must have reliable transportation

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, online databases & uploading web content

  • Able to prioritize tasks in a fast paced and independent environment

  • Ability to interact with and positively engage people of various social, ethnic, cultural, linguistic, religious, economic and educational backgrounds.

Position details:

  • This is a full-time non-exempt position.

  • $20 - $23 per hour, commensurate with experience

  • Occasional evening and weekend hours

  • Position available immediately
